quoting "C.E.in C." 6841/38/5a.
Sir,
With reference to your letter of the 4th June, 1938, No.53529/38, regarding the site of the proposed Naval Hospital at Hong Kong, I am commanded by My Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to state
for the information of the Secretary of State for the
Colonies that They understand the Colonial Government
regard the ten years period of the Admiralty options
as expiring in September 1939.
2. In the existing pressure of re-armament
services My Lords will find difficulty in commencing
building a new hospital at Hong Kong so immediately
as would warrant taking up the option on the site
before the 29th September, 1939, and I am to enquire
whether the Colonial Government would be willing to
allow the option to continue after September 1939
from year to year.
The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office,
S.W.1.
I am, Sir,
Your obedient Servant
